Most of the World's cork production comes from Portugal. A layer of bark from the trunk of the cork tree is removed. Cork is used for wine corks and corkboards.
Before our trip to Portugal I had always thought that the ancient windmills of the World were confined to the Netherlands. Windmills, both old and new are in abundance here.
I have always been intrigued by ancient medieval towns with ther castles at the top, old architecture and narrow streets.
