Gentoo Penguins in the Falkland Islands
Stanley, Fallkand Islands is purely British.  How the Argentineans could have wanted these islands is a mystery to me.  The climate is cold.  The terrain like Scotland, rocky and harsh.  It was cold and sleeting when I took these photos.  Our guide told us that 25,000 land mines remain buried in the countryside from the tragic Falklands War in 1982.
Our driver to see the Gentoo penguins (left)  prepared us for the rough 4 wheel drive trip. No roads here, just rock strewn land and streams to ford! The penguins are amazing.  This area also has a small colony of King penguins.
