South Africa - Soweto, Poor but Proud
Soweto on the edge of Johannesburg is South Africa's largest township with 2018 population of 1,271, 628.  Many of it's residents live in "settlements" such as is pictured on this page.   It's famous residents  include the late Nelson and Winnie Mandela and Desmond Tutu.
We were fortunate to have been able to tour Soweto and this settlement.  Our young guide (left) was quick to caution that the cute children were being taught not to beg, and were not to be tipped for posing for photos.
Soweto is 100 years old and many of  the township's early traditions remain.
